Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with him to urgently reach out to members who have defected and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the call on Friday, stressing the need for reconciliation and internal rebuilding as the opposition party works to reposition itself in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
The PDP, which has faced prolonged internal crisis in recent months, is now under pressure to restore trust, unify its ranks, and re-establish itself as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
Wike also commended the factional leadership for resuming operations at the party’s national secretariat following a Federal High Court judgment that facilitated their return.
“That shows that you are ready to kick-start daily activities. Let me also congratulate you for taking that bold initiative,” he said.
In response, the factional leadership pledged to reposition the party and address internal challenges, expressing confidence in its ability to deliver electoral victories in 2027.
“We will do everything possible to lead the party to a higher level. PDP has come to stay and under my leadership, we will make sure that we win elective positions in the 2027 general election,” a party official said.
The leadership also acknowledged past administrative lapses at the party secretariat, blaming them on previous leadership, while promising reforms and restoration of institutional order.
Another party chieftain, Iyorchia Ayu-aligned figure, Samuel Anyanwu, praised Wike’s visit, describing it as a demonstration of humility and political engagement.
He expressed optimism that the current leadership structure would strengthen the party and restore confidence among members as preparations intensify toward the 2027 elections.
