Mohamed Salah could be set for an emotional final appearance at Anfield this weekend, but Arne Slot has refused to confirm whether the Liverpool star will feature against Brentford F.C. on Sunday.
Salah, who is expected to leave Liverpool F.C. this summer after nine successful years at the club, recently stirred debate with comments urging the Reds to change their style of play. Many supporters interpreted the remarks as indirect criticism of Slot’s football philosophy.
Speaking ahead of the crucial Premier League clash, Slot declined to provide clarity on Salah’s involvement in the match. “I never say anything about team selection,” the Liverpool manager said when asked whether the Egyptian forward would play against Brentford.
Liverpool head into the encounter needing at least a point to guarantee qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Despite the growing speculation surrounding Salah’s future, Slot insisted his full attention remains on helping the club finish the season strongly.
The relationship between Slot and Salah has reportedly been strained for much of the campaign. Earlier in the season, the 33-year-old was omitted from Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan after publicly acknowledging that his relationship with the Dutch coach had deteriorated.
Responding to Salah’s recent comments, Slot admitted he has also been unhappy with aspects of Liverpool’s performances this season and hinted that changes could be made in the summer. Salah is widely expected to depart Anfield at the end of the campaign, closing the curtain on a remarkable era that established him as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
