Atiku Abubakar has emerged as an early front-runner in the ongoing African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary after winning in five states where results have so far been released.
The former Vice President has recorded victories in Sokoto, Abia, Gombe, Ebonyi, and Zamfara, putting him ahead of other contenders in the race, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-deen.
Although the ADC national leadership is yet to release an official collation of the overall results, figures gathered from party officials and state collation centres show Atiku maintaining a clear lead across the states so far declared.
In Gombe State, he polled 139,334 votes, while Amaechi recorded 1,150 votes and Hayatu-Deen got 464 votes. In Abia State, Atiku secured 25,153 votes, ahead of Amaechi’s 18,339 and Hayatu-Deen’s 3,264 votes.
Ebonyi State results showed Atiku with 15,300 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen polled 2,200 and 200 votes respectively. In Sokoto, he secured 69,431 votes compared to 292 votes for Amaechi and 319 votes for Hayatu-Deen.
In Zamfara State, Atiku also topped the poll with 60,500 votes, ahead of Hayatu-Deen’s 436 votes and Amaechi’s 191 votes. The primary is expected to produce the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
