An Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court has remanded Ayodele Babatola, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ado Constituency 1 in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, following allegations of sexual assault involving a 30-year-old woman.
Babatola was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State after the complainant, identified as Bukola Oluwaseun, accused him of forcefully having sexual intercourse with her at KIIBAT Hotel in the Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti on May 24, 2026.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, said the victim reported the incident to the police, alleging that the politician forcefully had carnal knowledge of her at the hotel located along Petim Estate in Ado Ekiti. He added that officers observed injuries allegedly sustained by the woman when the case was reported.
According to the police spokesperson, the matter was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Abutu said Babatola claimed he became angry after the woman allegedly demanded payment before intercourse and maintained that penetration did not occur before the disagreement escalated.
However, the police said medical examination results allegedly confirmed penetration. Following the investigation, Babatola was arraigned before the court and later remanded at the correctional facility in Ado Ekiti pending further proceedings in the case.
Meanwhile, members of the ADC on Wednesday, May 27, staged a protest over the politician’s arrest and detention, describing the development as politically motivated. Speaking at a press conference, ADC chieftain Gboyega Aribisogan alleged that Babatola had faced repeated harassment from the police due to his criticism of the Ekiti State Government’s performance.
