Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of failing to address the worsening insecurity and economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.
In a statement released by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the presidency appeared disconnected from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens, especially at a time when many families are battling hunger, rising living costs and growing insecurity.
He faulted the government for celebrating Nigeria’s increasing debt profile despite the hardship in the country. According to Atiku, it is troubling that officials are praising debt figures while many Nigerians can barely afford a decent meal each day.
The former vice president also expressed concern over the state of security nationwide, saying road travel in several parts of the country has become risky because of kidnappings and attacks by armed groups. He noted that many families now live in constant fear of receiving calls about abducted relatives.
Atiku further lamented that ransom payments have become a painful reality for many households, adding that insecurity has disrupted farming activities in several communities as farmers are unable to safely return to their lands.
He said the situation has contributed to food shortages, higher food prices and deeper hardship across the country. While acknowledging that borrowing is not entirely bad when properly managed, Atiku argued that Nigeria’s rising debt has brought little relief to citizens, accusing the government of prioritising propaganda over meaningful solutions.
