Kenneth Okonkwo has made strong allegations against former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of causing internal divisions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Okonkwo made the remarks during an appearance on the Naija Symfoni podcast, where he spoke extensively about Obi’s alleged role in the party’s internal affairs.
According to him, Obi’s involvement in the ADC introduced what he described as “toxicity” into the party.
“There was only one person that was bringing toxicity in ADC and that person is Peter Obi. He was the one that went around asking others to step down for him,” Okonkwo alleged.
He further claimed that Obi’s political approach tends to create tension and division wherever he becomes involved.
“By nature, chaos follows him. Immediately he came into the party was what brought the toxic ‘Obi or nothing,’ what brought the toxicity into ADC,” he said.
Okonkwo also alleged that Obi left the ADC because of fears surrounding internal democratic processes, particularly party primary elections.
According to the actor-politician, Obi has allegedly avoided participating in competitive primary contests throughout his political career.
“The reason he left ADC is because he is a man who is afraid of free, fair primary election. Throughout his political career he has never contested for any political position,” he claimed.
Continuing his criticism, Okonkwo argued that Obi’s political career was not built on democratic foundations.
“He built his political career on sand and not on democracy. He got possessed with entitlement democracy mentality so anytime he gets into a party he gets this fear of internal democracy,” he added.
