Lagos Drug Bust: Police Intercept ₦7.8bn Consignment, Suspect Allegedly Offers ₦500m Bribe

A major anti-drug operation in Lagos has led to the arrest of several suspects, including an alleged drug kingpin, after police uncovered a trafficking network linked to a massive consignment of suspected Canadian Loud valued at about ₦7.8 billion.

The operation, coordinated by the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command, followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by the Special Protection Unit alongside divisional detectives. Investigators reportedly tracked the movement of the syndicate before closing in on its activities in the state.

Police operatives eventually stormed an apartment in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, where the illicit drugs were allegedly being stored. During the raid, officers recovered the suspected narcotics and arrested key individuals believed to be connected to the network, including the alleged mastermind, Eke Henry Ifeanyi.

Speaking on the operation, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said the prime suspect was arrested on May 19 after an intensive monitoring exercise backed by coordinated police units and the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Jimoh also revealed that the suspect allegedly attempted to derail the operation by offering a ₦500 million bribe to the commander of the Special Protection Unit in a bid to buy time for his associates to move the drugs to another location. According to the police chief, the offer was immediately rejected and officially documented as evidence for further investigation.

The police described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in Lagos. Authorities said the recovered exhibits have been secured ahead of prosecution, while investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate still at large.
