President Bola Tinubu has openly admitted that many Nigerians are still battling severe economic hardship and worsening insecurity, despite repeated assurances from his administration that ongoing reforms are beginning to yield results.
The President made the remarks on Sunday, May 24, 2026, while accepting the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket for the 2027 election, acknowledging growing public frustration over the high cost of living and continued violence in parts of the country.
Speaking on the nation’s economic challenges, Tinubu said his government is fully aware of the burden many citizens are carrying as inflation, food prices, and other living expenses continue to rise. He stressed that the administration is not disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.
“Yet challenges remain. Many Nigerians still struggle with rising costs and economic adjustment. We do not dismiss these concerns; we understand them and govern not in comfort, but in reality, with honesty and action,” the President said during his speech.
Tinubu also admitted that insecurity remains a serious concern despite ongoing military offensives and security operations across several regions. According to him, the government has increased investments in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, and modern security equipment in a bid to strengthen the fight against criminal groups and violent attacks.
The President further called on the National Assembly to urgently approve the creation of state police, describing it as a national emergency. His comments come amid growing concerns over naira depreciation, the effects of fuel subsidy removal, rising inflation, and persistent cases of kidnappings, killings, and bandit attacks that continue to affect communities across Nigeria.
