Luis Enrique has paid glowing tribute to Pep Guardiola, describing him as the greatest manager in football history amid ongoing speculation about his future at Manchester City.
The Paris Saint-Germain coach made the remarks in an interview with Movistar Plus, where he reacted to reports suggesting Guardiola could step down from Manchester City at the end of the season.
Enrique admitted he struggles to believe the rumours, saying he hopes Guardiola continues coaching at the highest level for many years to come.
“I don’t believe Pep Guardiola is leaving. I don’t believe it and I don’t want to believe it, because I would like him to stay for many more years,” he said.
He also reflected on their long-standing professional respect, revealing that Guardiola has previously sought his advice during his time in charge of the Spanish national team.
Enrique added that Guardiola has always shown interest in managing a national team in the future, though he is unsure where that opportunity might come, before reiterating that in his opinion, the Manchester City boss remains unmatched in football management.
