Makinde Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition, Announces PDP-APM Alliance

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a joint mega rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor said Nigeria urgently needs a new direction, stressing that the country’s worsening condition has left many citizens struggling daily for survival.

“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.

Makinde lamented what he described as the failure of government officials to adequately protect the welfare and interests of Nigerians.

According to him, the hardship currently facing citizens has raised serious concerns about the nation’s future and the need for a united opposition movement.

“For the past several months, one question has remained on my mind where do we go from here? Is this how we should continue as a nation?” he asked.

He added that Nigerians had been pushed to the limit but insisted that opposition forces across the country were prepared to work together to change the political landscape.

“They said the opposition cannot unite, but that is a miscalculation. The opposition in Nigeria is not just a political party; it is the everyday Nigerian for whom the country no longer works,” Makinde stated.

The governor also announced the formal alliance between the PDP and the APM, describing it as the first major coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the partnership will enable the PDP faction in Oyo State to present candidates for all elective positions using the APM platform.

“So today in Ibadan, the first grand alliance is formed the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement,” he said.

“This partnership will allow us to field candidates at all levels, from the presidency to the state assemblies and every other office in between.”

Earlier, Makinde led the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

The agreement was signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, on behalf of both political parties.

Under the terms of the agreement, candidates from the PDP faction contesting governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly positions in 2027 are expected to contest on the APM platform instead of the PDP.
