Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has spoken emotionally about the recent security challenges in the state, saying the situation has been difficult for both the government and the people of Oyo.
The governor, while addressing residents, expressed sadness over the reported abduction involving students and teachers, noting that the incident has deeply affected him personally.
According to Makinde, the development reflects the urgent need for stronger and more localized security structures to tackle insecurity across the country.
“They abducted our students and even teachers are among them. This is a tough period for me as a person and also our state,” the governor said.
Makinde also renewed his demand for the establishment of state police, arguing that regional security outfits such as Amotekun became necessary because states were not constitutionally allowed to operate their own policing systems.
He explained that Amotekun was introduced as a temporary measure to bridge the security gap, while urging the federal government to give state assemblies the authority and support needed to establish and manage state police effectively.
