Manchester United have officially confirmed Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent manager after reaching an agreement on a new long-term contract.
The decision, which had reportedly been under discussion for several weeks, has now been finalised with approval from key stakeholders, including minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and senior club executives.
Carrick is expected to sign a new deal that could run for an initial two years with an option for extension, or potentially a straight three-year agreement depending on performance-related terms.
The former Manchester United midfielder had initially taken charge on an interim basis before earning the role permanently following an impressive run of results and growing confidence within the club hierarchy.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X on Friday.
“Michael Carrick will stay at Manchester United as permanent manager, confirmed. Direction clear for weeks, plan also approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and new deal set to be signed soon,” Romano posted.
He added that the agreement could either be a two-year contract with an extension option or a direct three-year deal, stressing that Carrick had already accepted the offer.
Meanwhile, Carrick confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, 34, will be available for his farewell appearance at Old Trafford.
The new United boss also revealed plans to continue the tradition established by legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson by addressing supporters after the club’s clash against Nottingham Forest.
“That’s important anyway,” Carrick said.
