Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has been affirmed as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Gombe State after emerging as the sole aspirant in the party’s selection process.
The affirmation exercise was held on Tuesday, with the party’s electoral panel chairman, Gregory Yenlong, announcing that Pantami polled a total of 52,955 votes across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The breakdown of the results showed that he secured 16,781 votes in Gombe North, 12,752 in Gombe Central, and 23,422 in Gombe South, confirming his emergence as the party’s flagbearer.
Speaking after his affirmation, Pantami said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to serve humanity and contribute to improving the lives of people in the state, rather than personal ambition.
He noted that Gombe State continues to face serious economic challenges, describing it as one of the poorest states in the country with a poverty index of about 74.5 per cent, and stressing the need for urgent intervention to improve living conditions.
Pantami added that his development agenda would focus on education, agriculture, and industrialisation, including plans for smart agriculture and efforts to attract foreign direct investment to boost economic growth and create opportunities for residents.
