Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a remarkable 10-year spell that has reshaped English football. His departure marks the close of one of the most successful managerial eras in the modern game.
During his time at the club, Guardiola won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and Manchester City’s first-ever UEFA Champions League crown. His tactical influence and consistency turned City into a dominant force both domestically and in Europe.
His final match in charge is expected to be the home fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday. After stepping down as manager, he is set to continue with the City Football Group in a global ambassadorial role.
Speaking in a club statement, Guardiola reflected emotionally on his departure, saying, “What a time we have had together! Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time. Nothing is eternal… eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”
News of his planned exit first emerged earlier in the week, with reports surfacing on Monday. At that time, speculation around his future intensified as Manchester City narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Arsenal just a day later.
Former Chelsea midfielder and coach Enzo Maresca is now widely reported to be the leading candidate to take over at the Etihad Stadium, as City begin planning for life after Guardiola’s historic tenure.
