Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has officially announced the dates for the Day of Arafat and the Eid-al-Adha celebration following the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH.
In a statement released by the court, the Crescent Sighting Department confirmed that the decision was reached after examining testimonies from witnesses who reported seeing the new moon.
The court also offered prayers for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while commending their continued efforts in serving pilgrims visiting the holy sites.
The official account of Haramain Info on X also confirmed the moon sighting, stating that the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah had commenced and that Eid-al-Adha would be observed accordingly. The message prayed for a safe and accepted pilgrimage for all Hajj pilgrims.
In Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, similarly declared the first day of Dhul Hijjah, marking the beginning of the sacred month for Muslims across the country.
Dhul Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar and is regarded as one of the holiest periods in Islam. The month features significant spiritual events, including the Day of Arafah considered the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage and the globally celebrated Eid-al-Adha festival.
