The Oyo State Police Command says it has neutralised three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a coordinated security operation in Otu, in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the operation was conducted in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the state.
The incident followed a distress call received on May 25, 2026, from local hunters who were on an expedition in Otu and reportedly came under attack by armed suspected kidnappers. The police said no casualties were recorded among the hunters during the initial encounter.
Acting on the alert, a joint team of police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies was quickly mobilised to the scene, where they were again engaged in a gun duel with the suspects.
The police said the criminals were eventually overpowered through a coordinated tactical response, leading to the killing of three suspected kidnappers and the rescue of 50-year-old Mr Mosudi Gbolagade, who was earlier abducted in Okaka and held in the Otu area. He was said to have sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a machete. One of the local hunters also sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and is being treated in hospital. The Commissioner of Police commended the operation, praising the teamwork of the security agencies and reaffirming the command’s commitment to sustained operations against criminal groups, while urging residents to continue providing timely and useful information.
