Tinubu Defends Economic Reforms, Says Nigeria’s Economy Showing Signs of Stability

President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying the difficult policies introduced over the past three years are beginning to produce positive results for Nigerians.

In his Eid-el-Kabir message released on Tuesday ahead of the Sallah celebration, the President said the economy is gradually stabilising despite the hardship that has followed recent reforms.

He noted that the sacrifices made by citizens and his administration were necessary steps to secure a stronger and more prosperous future for the country, adding that the reforms are beginning to show encouraging outcomes.

Tinubu explained that key measures such as the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market were tough but necessary decisions aimed at strengthening the economy in the long term. While acknowledging that the policies have led to higher food prices, transport costs, and inflation, he said they have also helped stabilise the naira and freed up funds for sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

In the same message, the President also addressed the country’s security challenges, noting that attacks by terrorists and bandits still persist in some parts of the country despite ongoing military operations. He said recent security gains, including the elimination of a wanted ISIS-linked leader, reflect progress in the fight against insecurity, while assuring Nigerians that no community has been neglected.

He urged citizens to embrace the values of sacrifice, unity, compassion, and peace associated with Eid-el-Kabir, and to use the festive period to pray for the nation and support those in need. Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a country where people can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their ambitions without fear.
