The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that the ruling party will secure more than 10 million votes in the 2027 presidential election, citing its growing membership and the impact of federal government programmes.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Yilwatda referenced the APC presidential primary in which President Bola Tinubu emerged as the party’s flagbearer after polling 10.9 million votes, questioning whether such figures could be replicated in a general election.
He argued that the party’s support base goes beyond its registered members, insisting that many beneficiaries of government initiatives are also politically aligned with the APC.
According to him, about 1.5 million students who have benefited from the student loan scheme, with their tuition fully covered, as well as their family members, are likely to support the party.
Yilwatda also pointed to the national health insurance scheme, saying around four million Nigerians including retirees, the elderly, and vulnerable citizens—could also favour the APC. He asked rhetorically whether such beneficiaries would vote for another party.
He further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Badagry road project, and the Kano railway, saying they are directly and indirectly impacting citizens. He maintained that the APC remains Nigeria’s most organised political party, with about 12.7 million members, while dismissing claims that it sponsors opposition crises or imposes candidates.
