Nigerian singer Brymo has called on some of Afrobeats’ biggest stars to make way for a new generation of artists, arguing that the industry's long-standing focus on a few established names is limiting fresh talent.
Speaking during an interview with TVC, the singer criticized the continued dominance of the “Big 3” narrative, often used to describe Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. According to him, the label keeps the same artists at the center of conversations despite the emergence of younger stars.
Brymo said the industry should pay less attention to debates about whether new artists possess lyrical depth and instead focus on creating opportunities for rising talents to thrive.
He argued that some established musicians appear determined to maintain their influence indefinitely, insisting that the industry must evolve by allowing younger acts to take the spotlight.
Highlighting Rema as an example, Brymo stated that the singer should currently be regarded as Nigeria’s biggest pop star, citing his growing influence and appeal among younger audiences.
The singer also questioned the continued dominance of conversations around veteran and established artists such as Wizkid, 2Baba, Olamide, and Burna Boy in the pop music space, urging them to step aside and allow the next generation to shape the future of the genre.
