The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has disclosed that she never saw the report that formed the basis for the suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Kingibe made the revelation on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where she addressed questions surrounding the disciplinary action taken against her colleague in the Senate.
According to the FCT lawmaker, she was attending a retreat alongside Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole when news of the report emerged. She explained that she had previously stated that she was at the event with three or four other senators who were members of the relevant committee.
She said they attended a session of the Senate Committee on Petitions and Public Complaints and signed the attendance register before she departed for a retreat focused on tax reforms. Kingibe noted that she considered the tax reform discussions more important at the time because of their direct impact on her constituents.
The senator explained that she assumed other committee members who remained behind would handle the matter concerning the disciplinary proceedings. As a result, she did not participate in any discussions or review of the report linked to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.
Kingibe further revealed that she later complained to fellow lawmakers, including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, about not having access to the report. She stressed that she did not see the document at the time and has still not seen it, despite the significant role it played in the suspension process.
