The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed as false reports suggesting that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, once staged a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The church said a photograph being circulated online has been repeatedly taken out of context to support a misleading narrative.
According to RCCG, the viral image showing Pastor Adeboye holding a placard was not connected to Jonathan’s government. The church explained that the photograph was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The walk, RCCG said, was aimed at drawing national attention to the killing of Christians and other innocent Nigerians, while also calling on the authorities to strengthen security across the country. Pastor Adeboye participated in the exercise in Ebute Metta, Lagos, alongside other Christian leaders and worshippers.
The church stressed that the event was neither political nor directed at any particular government. It added that Pastor Adeboye’s message during the walk focused on the sanctity of human life and the need to protect all Nigerians, regardless of their religious background.
RCCG also noted that although Pastor Adeboye is a spiritual leader and not a public office holder, he has consistently spoken on issues affecting the nation. The church recalled that during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, he urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts against insecurity and take decisive action against terrorists and those sponsoring them.
Reaffirming its non-partisan position, RCCG stated that neither Pastor Adeboye nor the church is affiliated with any political party. The church further maintained that it would be unfair to hold the cleric responsible for the country’s current challenges and urged members of the public to verify information through official channels before sharing it, emphasizing the importance of facts, context, and accuracy.
