The Senate has said it will examine comments made by former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, over alleged irregularities in the report that led to the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Oshiomhole had alleged that the names of at least three senators were wrongly included in the Senate Committee report recommending the suspension of the Kogi Central lawmaker. He further claimed that some lawmakers whose names appeared on the document denied signing or endorsing its contents.
Responding to the allegations in an interview with The Cable, Senate spokesperson, Adaramodu, said the chamber would take a close look at Oshiomhole’s comments and address them appropriately.
He stated that the Senate would review what he described as “extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments” made by any senator, adding that the matter would be considered and a formal position taken.
Adaramodu, however, maintained that no senator had formally reported forgery of signatures in relation to the Natasha suspension process, stressing that the issue was openly debated during plenary sessions in full view of Nigerians and international observers.
He further insisted that senators are independent-minded and act without coercion, adding that any genuine infraction would be raised officially within the chamber. According to him, there has never been a case of forged signatures in the Senate, describing the allegation as “strange” and unfounded.
