FIFA has announced that Colombian superstar Shakira will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, where she is also expected to perform the tournament’s official song ahead of the opening match.
The performance will take place at Estadio Azteca on June 11, just before hosts Mexico face South Africa in the tournament’s opening game. Shakira is set to perform the official song titled “Dai Dai” alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy.
“Dai Dai,” an Italian phrase meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” was unveiled earlier this year as the official soundtrack for the global football tournament.
The opening ceremony will also feature Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer-songwriter Tyla, as FIFA prepares to launch the first-ever 48-team World Cup jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Shakira’s appearance continues her long association with the World Cup, having performed at previous editions of the tournament. Her 2010 hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” remains one of the competition’s most iconic anthems.
She also featured at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup tournaments, cementing her status as one of the artists most closely linked to football’s biggest global event.
