Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 140,000 copies of seven different storybooks to the Federal Ministry of Education as part of efforts to promote literacy, improve learning outcomes, and encourage a reading culture among schoolchildren across the country.
The books are expected to be distributed to public school libraries nationwide, providing pupils and students with greater access to educational and recreational reading materials. The initiative is aimed at enhancing literacy development, supporting classroom learning, and fostering a lifelong love for reading among young Nigerians.
Speaking on the importance of education and literacy, the First Lady emphasized the need to equip children with the knowledge and skills necessary for personal growth and national development. The donation underscores her commitment to supporting educational advancement and ensuring that students in public schools have access to quality learning resources.
The Federal Ministry of Education welcomed the donation, describing it as a significant contribution to the improvement of library facilities and reading resources in schools. The ministry noted that access to storybooks and other learning materials plays a critical role in improving reading comprehension, creativity, critical thinking, and academic performance among learners.
Education stakeholders have also commended the initiative, noting that strengthening school libraries is essential to nurturing informed, knowledgeable, and productive citizens. They expressed optimism that the books would help bridge resource gaps in many public schools and encourage students to develop positive reading habits.
According to information made available to DIP CONNECT ONLINE NEWS, the 140,000 books comprise seven carefully selected titles designed to engage young readers, stimulate imagination, and reinforce educational values. The distribution exercise is expected to reach schools across the six geopolitical zones of the country, ensuring that learners in both urban and rural communities benefit from the intervention.
The donation aligns with ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and its partners to improve access to quality education and create a more conducive learning environment for children nationwide.
