Yoruba nation activist and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced the rescue of a woman and her son who were abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to Igboho, the victims, Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik, were rescued in Kwara State after a coordinated operation involving members of the Iru Ekun Security Network and the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued by his media office and made available to DIP CONNECT ONLINE NEWS in Ibadan, the operation, which lasted about three days, was said to have succeeded through intelligence gathering, surveillance and strategic tracking of the kidnappers. The statement explained that the suspects were lured into a meeting under the guise of collecting ransom before security operatives launched the rescue mission.
The statement revealed that the kidnappers fled with gunshot wounds after engaging the security team in a fierce exchange of gunfire, abandoning the victims inside the forest.
Providing details of the operation, Igboho said:
“My team members, alongside ASP Amos Ajegoke and other police officers, spent several days in the forest tracking the movements of the kidnappers to determine their exact location. On July 2, we discovered they were around Bode Sadu, before Jebba. We moved to the area and remained there until Friday night.
“At about 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, they arrived to collect the ransom as previously arranged. We immediately launched an operation against them in the forest, leading to a gun battle. We pursued them through the forest, forcing them to flee.
“After searching the area, we discovered they had abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik. We heard them calling for help, traced their voices and successfully rescued them. They are currently receiving medical treatment at Igboho General Hospital.”
The statement also acknowledged the support received from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, noting that the operation benefited from coordination involving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Tunji Disu, as well as the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger states.
According to the statement, the collaborative efforts and continuous communication among the security agencies contributed significantly to the successful outcome of the mission after several days of intensive operations in the forest.
Igboho reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property across Oke-Ogun and Oyo State, assuring residents that every lawful measure would continue to be deployed to support peace and security in the region.
He also appealed to Nigerians to remain calm, support legitimate security operations against criminal elements and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear and panic among the public.
