The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has said there is a possibility he may not be alive to participate in the 2027 presidential race, alleging that the current administration is frustrating his activities and targeting members of the opposition.
DIP CONNECT ONLINE NEWS reports that Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, excerpts of which were shared on X by media personality Chude Jideonwo on Wednesday.
Responding to a question on whether there was a possibility he might not eventually emerge as a candidate in the 2027 election, Obi said the issue went beyond his candidacy.
"Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I'm telling you," he said.
The former Anambra State governor alleged that virtually every aspect of his public engagements was being deliberately obstructed.
"Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive," he stated.
Obi, however, clarified that he was not making a direct accusation against any individual or institution but said he experiences constant frustration in his daily activities.
"It's not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal—it is not normal anymore.
"They won't come directly and say, 'Oh, we're doing this,' but you can see their hand in virtually everything," he added.
When asked whether he believed he was being personally targeted, Obi responded that the alleged actions extended beyond him to include other opposition figures.
"They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all," he said.
The former presidential candidate cited an incident at an airport where he claimed officials locked his vehicle while leaving other vehicles parked in the same location untouched.
According to Obi, he identified himself to the officials involved, but the officer in charge allegedly ignored him despite his explanation.
He also claimed that some people who know him now avoid greeting him publicly because they fear they could become targets simply by being seen with him.
Obi further alleged that some supporters have discouraged him from attending family celebrations, including weddings, out of concern that his presence could attract unwanted attention.
He said some invitations he receives are accompanied by requests asking him not to attend the events despite being invited.
As of the time of filing this report, Obi did not present evidence to substantiate the allegations made during the interview, while the Federal Government of Nigeria had not issued any official response to his claims.
