The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Chidera Okorie, from Obinolu Ngodo Isiochi I in Umunneochi Local Government Area, over his alleged involvement in armed robbery.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, said the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence gathered by security operatives.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Okorie on June 5 during an intelligence-led operation.
The police alleged that the suspect had been using a stainless steel lighter fashioned to resemble a pistol to intimidate unsuspecting members of the public before robbing them of their valuables.
The command disclosed that additional items linked to the alleged criminal activities were recovered during the operation.
Police said investigations are still ongoing and assured that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police also encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and other security concerns to the nearest police station, stressing that public cooperation remains essential in maintaining safety and security across the state.
