Commission expands digital learning opportunities, upgrades facilities at Nyanya Hausawa schools
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has intensified efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of basic education through the deployment of technology-enabled learning facilities and the rehabilitation of critical school infrastructure.
The interventions, which are in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, include the establishment and operationalisation of UBEC Digital Learning Centres across the country, as well as the rehabilitation, furnishing and equipping of the LEA Nursery and Primary School and Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS), Nyanya Hausawa, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Federal Capital Territory.
The UBEC Digital Learning Centres are designed to provide technology-enabled environments where teachers and learners can access ICT devices, digital learning resources, internet connectivity and other supporting infrastructure.
Through the Centres, UBEC seeks to strengthen digital literacy and competencies among teachers and learners, expand access to relevant educational resources and encourage the effective integration of technology into classroom instruction.
The initiative is also expected to promote more interactive and engaging teaching and learning, while equipping learners with essential digital skills needed to participate effectively in an increasingly technology-driven world.
According to the Commission, the commissioning and operationalisation of the Digital Learning Centres represent a significant step towards integrating technology into basic education, bridging the digital divide and creating more inclusive and innovative learning environments.
Infrastructure Upgrade at Nyanya Hausawa
As part of its infrastructure intervention, UBEC is also implementing the rehabilitation of the LEA Nursery and Primary School and GJSS Nyanya Hausawa under its 2025 Direct Intervention Project.
The project is aimed at providing safer, more functional and adequately equipped learning facilities for pupils and teachers in the two schools.
The intervention covers the rehabilitation of three blocks of classrooms, offices, stores and toilets, alongside the drilling of a solar-powered borehole, fence works and the provision of furniture for pupils, teachers and the head teacher.
Specifically, the project provides for the renovation of three blocks comprising eight classrooms, four offices, four stores and 28 toilets each. It also includes the drilling of one solar-powered borehole, fence works and the provision of 200 pupils’ furniture.
In addition, 24 sets of teachers’ furniture and one set of head teacher’s furniture are being provided to support effective teaching and learning.
The intervention is intended to improve the overall learning environment by providing adequate classroom, office, storage and sanitary facilities, improving access to water, strengthening security and ensuring that pupils and teachers have appropriate furniture.
UBEC said the completion of the project underscores its continuing commitment to improving infrastructure in basic education schools and creating conducive, safe and hygienic environments that support improved access to, and quality of, basic education.
The Commission noted that the combined focus on digital learning and physical infrastructure reflects its broader commitment to ensuring that Nigerian children have access to learning environments that are responsive to the demands of contemporary education.
