Police have detained two suspects over the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu, while a joint security operation has been launched following unrest in the community.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two men over the killing of a 26-year-old resident, Kehinde Asimiyu, in Olodo, Ibadan, as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent the incident from triggering further violence.

The suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde and Ishola Semiu, were apprehended following the fatal confrontation reported at Olodo Garage on November 1, 2026.

Police said preliminary findings indicated that Asimiyu was allegedly attacked by Babarinde with a broken bottle during an argument between the two men.

The victim was taken to Academy Hospital, Texaco, along Iwo Road, where a doctor pronounced him dead. His body was subsequently transferred to Adejare Embalming Centre.

Both suspects remain in police custody, while the investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further examination.

Security agencies deployed after unrest

The killing reportedly sparked tension around the Olodo Police Outpost, prompting concerns about possible violence and a breakdown of public order.

To contain the situation, the police brought in additional personnel, working alongside the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, also instructed the Area Commander in Moniya to meet with community representatives and other stakeholders to ease tensions and strengthen cooperation with security agencies.

Participants at the meeting included representatives of the Local Council Development Area, commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as youth leaders.

Discussions focused on preventing further disturbances, promoting peaceful relations among residents and improving collaboration between the community and security personnel.

Police warn against further violence

Olugbenga appealed to residents to remain peaceful and avoid actions capable of worsening the situation, assuring them that security arrangements had been strengthened to safeguard lives and property.

He warned that anyone attempting to exploit the killing to incite violence or disrupt public peace would face appropriate action.

The Command also called on residents to assist investigators by providing reliable information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and maintain security in Olodo and neighbouring communities.
