The Gombe State Government has approved an additional ₦5,000 monthly allowance for all staff under the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), effective from June 2025.
This decision was reached at a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by the Head of Civil Service and attended by labour leaders and senior government officials.
In an official memo signed by Jibrin Yusuf on behalf of the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, it was stated that the allowance will be paid to all eligible staff pending the completion of an ongoing Physical Verification Exercise across the LGAs. “Approval has been granted for the payment of an additional ₦5,000 to all Local Government and Local Education Authority staff across the state pending the completion of the current Physical Verification Exercise with effect from June 2025,” the memo noted.
The allowance will be incorporated into the payroll beginning in July 2025. The Head of Civil Service has directed the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to ensure timely implementation of the directive.
However, findings revealed that civil servants in the state’s 11 LGAs have yet to benefit from the consequential minimum wage adjustments. A minimum wage committee, headed by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau and labour leaders including Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman Yusuf Bello, had earlier agreed to a ₦70,000 minimum wage once revenue improves.
During the last Workers Day celebration, Bello urged the government to implement the local government minimum wage without further delay, noting: “While we sincerely commend your unwavering commitment and strong political will in advancing the development of our beloved state, we feel compelled to bring a few pressing issues to your attention.
