FCT Flags Off 2026 World Malaria Day with Renewed Drive to End Malaria

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Public Health Department has officially flagged off activities marking the 2026 World Malaria Day, reaffirming its commitment to eliminate malaria and improve public health outcomes across the territory.

The flag-off ceremony, held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Government Secondary School, Gwarinpa – Life Camp, brought together key stakeholders, development partners, healthcare professionals, and members of the public in a united effort to combat malaria.

Speaking at the event, the Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, emphasized the urgency of collective action in tackling malaria. She highlighted that this year’s theme, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must,” reflects the growing momentum and capability to eradicate the disease if all hands remain on deck.

The programme featured a range of free health services, including malaria testing and treatment, HIV and tuberculosis screening, deworming, and health education sessions focused on prevention strategies such as environmental sanitation and seasonal malaria chemoprevention. Demonstrations on the proper use of mosquito nets were also conducted to promote preventive practices.

The event was supported by notable partners, including the World Health Organization and other international and local health organizations, reinforcing a collaborative approach to malaria elimination in Nigeria.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory were encouraged to take advantage of the free services and adopt preventive measures to reduce malaria transmission.

The FCT Administration reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery systems and sustaining interventions aimed at achieving a malaria-free society.
