The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa State Command, has announced the seizure of about 1,300 kilograms of illicit drugs in the second quarter of 2025.
The State Commander, Musa Maina, disclosed this on Thursday in Dutse while briefing journalists as part of activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking. He noted that the large seizure, covering April to June, demonstrates the agency’s sustained efforts to tackle drug use and trafficking across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas.
Maina expressed appreciation for the support of partner agencies, groups, National Youth Service Corps members, and students who have participated in the command’s outreach activities, describing their involvement as vital to the fight against drug abuse.
Reaffirming the agency’s resolve, Maina assured residents that the NDLEA would remain vigilant and proactive in curbing the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Committee on Drug Abuse and Control in the state, Khadi Bashir Birnin-Kudu, stressed the importance of public awareness, urging citizens to shun drug use and sales for their own wellbeing. He warned that drug abuse has devastating consequences that can destroy lives.
Khadi Bashir further emphasised the need for community support, noting that collaborative efforts between government and the public are crucial for building a safer, healthier society. He described the NDLEA’s ongoing work as a positive step towards long-term benefits for the state.
As part of the day’s activities, the NDLEA Jigawa Command also organised a sensitisation rally within Dutse metropolis to educate residents on the dangers of drug abuse.
