The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects linked to the killing of 12 wedding guests in Mangu Local Government Area.
In a statement on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, disclosed that the victims were traveling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to attend a wedding in Qua’an Pan LGA when they lost their way and were attacked by a mob in Mangun village on the night of June 20, 2025.
According to the police, the mob stopped the bus, set it ablaze, and killed several passengers. Seven others sustained injuries, while 14 were rescued unhurt. In total, 21 victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Upon receiving credible intelligence around 9:47 p.m. on June 20, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, directed the Divisional Police Officer in Mangu to mobilize officers to the scene. They, along with other security agencies, dispersed the mob and rescued the victims,” the statement read.
The Commissioner later visited the area alongside other security chiefs to assess the situation and reinforce law and order. As a result, 22 suspects were arrested.
To aid ongoing investigations, personnel from the State Intelligence Department (SID), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Tactical Teams have been deployed to Mangu.
The police assured the public that justice will be pursued and warned against any form of mob action or self-help.
