Tinubu Condemns Plateau Travellers’ Killings, Orders Immediate Arrest of Perpetrators

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 12 travellers in Plateau State, describing the attack as “unacceptable and barbaric,” and has ordered security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of travellers in Plateau State, urging security forces to ensure the arrest and punishment of the culprits,” the statement read.

Reacting to the murder of 12 wedding guests — including the father and brother of the groom — the President expressed deep concern over the heinous nature of the attack. The victims, who were travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos in Plateau State, were ambushed and killed by assailants.

President Tinubu directed the Nigerian Police Force to work closely with other security and intelligence agencies to track down those responsible for the attack and ensure justice is served.

Calling for calm, the President assured that the attack would not go unpunished. He urged the Plateau State Government to take decisive action in tackling recurring violence, stressing the need to break the cycle and deter future occurrences.

“The Government of Plateau State must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences,” the President stated.

He also reaffirmed the federal government’s stance on the fundamental right to free movement for all Nigerians, warning that no group or individual would be allowed to undermine national security or instill fear through violence.

“Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” he said.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the government and people of Kaduna State over the tragic incident.
