A tragic road accident along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli road in Abia State has claimed two lives following a collision between a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle (Keke) with registration number ATN 201 VU.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m. near Umuda.
According to Ezeoma, the FRSC rescue team received the crash report at 4:33 p.m. and arrived at the scene within two minutes to begin emergency rescue operations.
She explained that six people were involved in the crash—two males, three females, and a child. Four victims, including a male, two females, and a child, sustained injuries and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment. Two people were confirmed dead and their remains have been deposited at the FMC mortuary.
Ezeoma said preliminary investigations indicate that the likely cause of the crash was speeding, compounded by wet weather conditions that reduced visibility and road control.
The FRSC extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. The Corps also urged all motorists, especially commercial drivers, to strictly observe speed limits, drive with caution during poor weather, and always prioritize safety and patience on the roads.
The statement reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives across Abia State and the country at large.
