Tinubu Appoints Governing Council, Principal Officers for Ogoni Environmental Technology University

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, located in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.

The appointments were disclosed on Wednesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a management expert and former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, has been appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Also appointed from the University of Port Harcourt is Prof. Chinedu Mmom, a professor of geography and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, who will serve as the Vice-Chancellor. Both are from the South-South region.

Other members of the Governing Council include:

  • Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central)

  • Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South-West)

  • Prof. Chima Oji (South-East)

  • Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West)

The statement further noted that President Tinubu has assembled “a team of professionals to play key roles at the university.”

The principal officers appointed include:

  • Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South-South) – Registrar

  • Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) – Bursar

  • Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South-South) – Librarian

The new university is scheduled to admit its first batch of students in September 2025, following President Tinubu’s signing of the bill establishing the institution into law on February 3, 2025
