The Abuja Police have launched an investigation into the sudden and mysterious death of 27-year-old Esther Akwaji, who reportedly fell ill after visiting her boyfriend in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, Esther left her home on January 21, 2026, around 3 p.m., telling her family she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She never returned.
Her brother, Peter Akwaji, reported her missing the following day. That same evening, he received an anonymous call from someone claiming to be Esther’s boyfriend. The caller said that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he served her food. She reportedly began vomiting shortly afterward and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Following the report, police operatives from the Dei-Dei Division recovered Esther’s body from Kubwa General Hospital and deposited it at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are actively searching for the alleged boyfriend, who is currently at large.
SP Adeh assured the public that the FCT Police Command is committed to a thorough investigation and to ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice. Updates will be provided as the case develops.
