2027 Presidency: Peter Obi Declares Interest, Rules Out VP Slot

Former Anambra State Governor and key figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has declared his intention to contest for the presidency in 2027, making it clear that he will not accept a vice-presidential role.

Obi disclosed his plan while addressing supporters at a campaign rally for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In his address, Obi stated that his political ambition is firmly focused on leading from the front, stressing that he is not interested in playing a supporting role in the party’s future political arrangements.

He described the AMAC election as a critical part of his broader political journey and urged party members and residents to support the ADC candidate, noting that victory in the poll would significantly strengthen his mission.

According to him, his participation in the forthcoming elections is as a principal contender and not as a secondary figure.

“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.

Supporters of Obi, particularly those within the Obidient Movement, have continued to mount pressure on the ADC leadership to present him as the party’s sole presidential candidate for 2027.

Meanwhile, the ADC is also home to other prominent politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
