Nollywood star Teniola Aladese has ignited fresh conversations on gender expectations after speaking out against traditional stereotypes surrounding household duties.
The actress shared her views during an appearance on the That’s What She Said vodcast, where she questioned why domestic chores are often regarded as a woman’s responsibility rather than a shared obligation.
Aladese argued that many societal norms still impose outdated expectations on women, especially within relationships. She noted that women today are equally active in the workforce and contribute financially, yet are still expected to handle most household tasks after work.
She also stressed that men participating in chores such as cooking or washing dishes does not diminish their masculinity. Instead, she described shared domestic responsibilities as a reflection of partnership and mutual respect in modern homes.
Calling for a shift in mindset, the actress urged men to support their partners not only financially but also through active participation in household labour, emphasizing that shared effort would ease pressure on women and promote healthier relationships.
