Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has expressed delight after arriving in Madrid to officially begin a new chapter with Atletico Madrid, ending months of speculation over his transfer.
The 28-year-old landed in the Spanish capital on Sunday following protracted negotiations with Italian side Atalanta. Atletico Madrid confirmed the deal after agreeing on a €40 million transfer, comprising a €35 million base fee and €5 million in performance-related add-ons. Atalanta had previously resisted multiple bids for Lookman since last summer, despite the winger’s expressed desire for a new challenge.
Lookman is set to undergo medical examinations on Monday before signing a long-term contract with the La Liga giants. His departure from Bergamo closes a memorable period in Italy, highlighted by his historic hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final.
