Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan will on March 1 jointly inaugurate the National Assembly Christian Chapel in Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a statement co-signed on Wednesday by the President of the Christian Legislators Fellowship, Senator Binus Yaroe (PDP–Adamawa), and its Secretary, Representative Bamidele Salam (PDP–Osun).
According to Senator Yaroe, the inauguration and dedication of the 750-capacity non-denominational chapel will also be attended by former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, as well as the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
Other dignitaries expected at the event include the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh; the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Oke; and Matthew Kukah, among other prominent Christian leaders.
Yaroe described the dedication as a landmark moment for Christian legislators and staff, noting that it marks “the beginning of a new chapter in strengthening spiritual fellowship within the National Assembly.”
“The event, which is expected to attract eminent Nigerians from across the country, will mark a significant milestone for the Christian community within the legislature,” he said. “It will bring together leading Christian figures, policymakers, and dignitaries in a moment of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection.”
The lawmaker recalled that the chapel project was initiated in May 2019 under the leadership of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. He explained that the initiative was conceived to provide a dedicated place of worship, fellowship, and prayer for Christian lawmakers and staff.
According to him, the chapel is intended to serve as a spiritual hub that promotes unity, moral reflection, and faith-based support among members of the legislative community.
