Kogi Poly Rector Seeks Staff Support to Drive Institutional Reforms

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has appealed to staff members to rally behind ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the institution for enhanced productivity and improved academic performance.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, following the rector’s familiarisation visit to the Utakpe campus on Tuesday.

The visit formed part of Avidime’s engagements with staff and key stakeholders after he formally assumed office last week.

While addressing workers, the rector described the School of Engineering as pivotal to the polytechnic’s core mandate, emphasising the importance of strengthening technical education and hands-on training to meet current and future demands.

“The visit was aimed at familiarising myself with staff members, understanding their challenges, and identifying areas requiring urgent attention to enhance productivity and institutional growth,” Avidime said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to staff welfare, acknowledging the critical role employees play in achieving academic excellence and ensuring institutional stability.

“Your unwavering support is highly essential to achieve our noble objectives,” he added.

Expressing optimism, the rector said the challenges confronting the polytechnic could be overcome through unity, dedication, and collective effort, stressing that meaningful progress would depend on cooperation across all levels of the institution.

Reiterating his resolve to uphold fairness and equity, Avidime urged staff to remain diligent and law-abiding, noting that management would address issues of truancy and misconduct decisively while ensuring justice and transparency in administration.

He also expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for entrusting him with the leadership of the institution, and paid tribute to former governor Yahaya Bello for his support and encouragement.

In their responses, staff members pledged loyalty to the new rector and assured him of their full backing as he implements his reform agenda.

Like many public polytechnics in Nigeria, Kogi State Polytechnic continues to grapple with challenges such as infrastructure deficits, funding limitations, staff welfare concerns, and the need to modernise its curriculum in line with evolving industry requirements.
