Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended the people of Osun State for their resilience and steadfastness in the face of what he described as “crude oppression” arising from the unlawful seizure of local government funds over the past year.
The governor made the remarks in a goodwill message to the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast on Wednesday, while lamenting the economic hardship the withholding of local government allocations has imposed on residents of the state.
“In the last one year, things have not been easy, as those who believed they have power chose to punish Osun people for no reason other than politics,” Adeleke said in the message, signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
He noted that despite what he described as political brinkmanship, his administration had remained committed to its responsibilities, including the regular payment of salaries and the execution of projects designed to improve the welfare of the people.
“In spite of their brinkmanship, we have not wavered in our obligations to the payment of salaries, and many projects that will benefit our people are still ongoing,” the governor stated.
Adeleke described justice as the bedrock of a peaceful and prosperous society, urging politicians within and outside the state to shun politics of bitterness and instead pursue actions that serve the collective interest of the people rather than inflict punishment.
He assured residents that his administration deeply appreciates their sacrifices and would continue to justify their trust through the delivery of good governance.
While congratulating Muslims on witnessing another Ramadan, the governor encouraged the faithful to observe the holy month in line with the dictates of Allah, reminding them of the values of self-discipline, tolerance, and spiritual renewal associated with the fasting period.
“I congratulate Muslims in the state and beyond for witnessing yet another Ramadan period. Ramadan offers a message of self-discipline and spiritual renewal. It is a season that reminds us of the values of patience and the essence of cheerful giving,” Adeleke said.
He added that the fasting period presents an opportunity to strengthen faith and impact lives positively through acts such as feeding the poor and assisting those in need.
“For 29 or 30 days, we have a remarkable opportunity to renew bonds and foster harmony in our communities by coming together during the breaking of fast,” he noted.
Reaffirming his commitment to governance, Adeleke said that from his first day in office, he resolved to serve the people diligently despite challenges.
“No matter the hurdles, I will not depart from this commitment. Osun people can continue to trust our administration to deliver for them irrespective of the circumstances, and as we approach another election, they should renew their faith in us to continue the good work we started together,” the governor said.
