N’Assembly Holds Closed-Door Meeting with FAAN Over Lagos Airport Fire

The National Assembly and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) convened a closed-door meeting on Thursday to address the recent fire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which caused significant damage to Terminal 1.

Members of the Senate and House Aviation Committees visited the airport earlier in the day to inspect the extent of the destruction before meeting with FAAN officials, led by Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, to review the incident and discuss immediate measures.

The fire, which erupted on Monday, severely affected critical aviation infrastructure and equipment, raising concerns about operational disruptions. While no fatalities have been reported, the blaze destroyed vital systems used in airport operations.

The closed-door session reportedly focused on assessing the cause of the fire, evaluating damage control measures, and ensuring the safety and continuity of airport operations. Lawmakers emphasized the need for swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

FAAN and National Assembly officials have yet to release a full public statement on the outcome of the meeting, but sources indicate that the discussions were aimed at coordinating a rapid response and reviewing emergency protocols.
