The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, has called on store officers across the scheme to uphold strict professionalism, transparency, and due process in handling government property, stressing that efficient asset administration is central to institutional credibility and programme success.
Speaking at the 2026 Store Officers’ Workshop held at Bolingo Xperia Hotel, Nafiu represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Umar urged participants to demonstrate prudence, integrity, and accountability in their duties to strengthen service delivery nationwide.
He emphasized the importance of meticulous record-keeping and full compliance with established storekeeping procedures, inventory policies, and administrative regulations, warning that lapses could undermine operations and erode public confidence in the scheme.
Assuring officers of continued institutional support, Nafiu noted that management would sustain regular training programmes aimed at enhancing staff capacity and ensuring seamless operations across orientation camps, state secretariats, area offices, and national headquarters.
He reminded participants that, as custodians of public assets, they must guard against negligence in the use of government resources. According to him, operational materials including kits, camp equipment, and office supplies must be properly received, documented, stored, and issued in line with approved procedures.
In her opening remarks, Acting Director of General Services Yetunde Baderinwa described the workshop as an essential platform for knowledge exchange and the adoption of modern best practices in inventory control, store management, and documentation systems.
The workshop, themed “Efficient Store Keeping: A Pillar of Accountability and Service Delivery in NYSC,” brought together store officers from formations across Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory Secretariat, and the National Directorate Headquarters.
