Nigeria’s Youth Service Chief Calls for Global Standards and Stronger Partnerships in Enterprise Development

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, has urged managers overseeing the scheme’s business ventures to embrace innovation and adopt international best practices to strengthen performance and sustainability.

Speaking through the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Rachel Idaewor, while declaring open the 2026 Farm/Ventures Managers’ Workshop in Abuja, Nafiu emphasized that the ventures were established as strategic platforms to empower corps members, staff, and host communities economically.

The workshop, themed “Promoting Viable Partnerships For Profitable NYSC Ventures,” was convened to encourage managers to explore new strategies that would enhance profitability and ensure long-term viability. Nafiu stressed that dedicated commitment from officials managing the initiatives remains essential to achieving the programme’s economic objectives.

He also cautioned against acts of sabotage and mismanagement, noting that the training was designed to strengthen managerial capacity and foster partnerships capable of improving profit margins. The DG commended managers who had delivered strong results and urged them to maintain momentum toward greater achievements.

In his welcome remarks, Acting Director of the Ventures Management Department, Abe Dankaro, highlighted milestones recorded by the department, including improved productivity, broader market access, and impactful collaborations.

Among recent accomplishments, he cited the installation of a solar-powered borehole, the establishment of a modern fish farm at the NYSC facility in Kwali, and the launch of a beef-fattening project at the orientation camp in Keffi, located in Nasarawa State.

Dankaro added that the department is partnering with reputable organisations to enhance corps members’ training while boosting both agricultural and industrial operations under the scheme.
