The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology has announced that 1,452 students will receive first degrees at its upcoming ninth convocation ceremony, including 50 students who achieved first-class honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, disclosed the details on Thursday, highlighting the institution’s academic growth and milestones. He revealed that this year’s convocation would mark the university’s first-ever doctoral graduate, with a PhD awarded in Mathematics.
According to Ologunorisa, the graduating students include 594 in the second-class upper division, 691 in the second-class lower division, and 115 in the third class.
The Vice-Chancellor also noted the university’s rapid growth, with student enrollment rising from 5,000 to 12,000 over the past few years, alongside the expansion of faculties from three to seven. He highlighted staff achievements in research, recognition among top global scientists, and the institution’s practical contributions to knowledge and community engagement.
“Our convocation lecture will be delivered by Professor Andrew Spencer, President of Caribbean Maritime University, who will address how Nigeria can harness the blue economy, drawing lessons from the Caribbean,” Ologunorisa said.
He added that many students now transition directly from undergraduate studies to PhD programmes at leading international universities, while some staff receive international offers and promotions, reflecting the university’s high standard of scholarship and global recognition.
