Ooni of Ife Installs Chief Saka Awojoodu as New Jaaran Adimula of Ile‑Ife

The Ooni of Ife’s Palace has announced the installation of Chief Saka Awojoodu as the new Jaaran Adimula of Ile‑Ife, marking a significant traditional appointment in the ancient Yoruba city.

The ceremony, held at the revered Ile Oodua Palace on Thursday, was conducted in strict accordance with centuries‑old customary rites and attended by palace chiefs, traditional priests, and key members of the Ife Traditional Council.

Acting on behalf of the monarch, Oba Idowu Adediwura, the Obalufe of Ife, and Oba Adekola Adeyeye, the Lowa Adimula of Ife, led the installation rites at the Oke‑Emese section of the palace. The rituals included a symbolic procession around major compounds and sacred sites in Ile‑Ife, a customary practice for assuming the responsibilities of the exalted office.

In his remarks, the Obalufe urged Chief Awojoodu to serve with integrity, humility, and loyalty to the throne of Oduduwa, emphasising the importance of preserving the sanctity of traditional institutions and upholding time‑honoured customs. The Lowa Adimula encouraged him to work collaboratively with other kingmakers and chiefs to strengthen unity within the traditional council and contribute to the growth and stability of Ile‑Ife.

Chief Saka Awojoodu, formerly the Yegbata of Ife and head of the Emeses at the Ooni’s Palace, expressed profound gratitude to the Ooni for the appointment. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the throne and vowed to uphold the traditions, values, and responsibilities associated with the title. Awojoodu also committed to fostering peace, protecting cultural heritage, and supporting initiatives for development and unity within the Ife community.

The title of Jaaran Adimula is a senior position among the Ife kingmakers and plays a crucial advisory role in the palace, particularly in matters of tradition and succession. By customary ranking, the Jaaran Adimula is next in hierarchy to the Lowa Adimula, a position once held by Oba Adekola Adeyeye before his elevation.
