Nigerian pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has addressed the backlash he faced after getting a tattoo on his hand, stating that the Bible does not prohibit Christians from having tattoos.
In a video, the pastor explained that objections to tattoos often stem from church doctrines rather than scripture. He emphasised that Christians should be guided by their personal walk with Christ and understanding of God’s word, rather than public opinion or religious pressure.
“There’s no scripture that says a child of God cannot have a tattoo. People are expressing personal preferences based on what the Holy Spirit told them or their church policies, and then they try to impose it on others. This isn’t how these things work,” he said.
Okonkwo added, “Everybody needs to know Christ to walk in the word of God. Somebody needs to sit me down and spell out tattoos are bad because, if somebody draws an ink on their body their brains goes bad, if somebody draws an ink on their body their character suddenly goes bad, with scriptural and scientific proof to back this thought up. Yet, everyone is just shouting without explanation. Nobody can tell me why tattoos are wrong.”
