Tinubu Stresses Youth Investment as Key to National Progress at FUT Minna Convocation

President Bola Tinubu has emphasised that no nation can thrive without deliberate investment in its youths.

Speaking at the 34th Convocation and 43rd Founders Day of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, on Sunday, Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id-Ahmad, stressed that Nigerians should not be denied quality education due to financial constraints.

The President lauded FUT Minna for 43 years of excellence in science, engineering, innovation, and applied research, noting that the current administration has expanded access to education through targeted infrastructure investments and the implementation of a student loan scheme.

Prof. Farouk Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of FUT Minna, described the ceremony as a reflection of the university’s resilience, creativity, and commitment to knowledge advancement and service to humanity. He highlighted the institution’s exceptional achievements in the past year, including ranking seventh among Nigerian universities, topping specialised universities, and placing 68th in Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor also cited the university’s strategic expansion, particularly in training healthcare professionals and medical technologists, as evidence of its commitment to addressing societal challenges. He added that staff welfare remains a priority, noting that 146 senior non-teaching staff and 110 junior staff were promoted, and 22 appointments were confirmed. Renovations to the school clinic and sports complex were also completed.

Prof. Kuta urged graduates to embrace their transition from learners to alumni and become solution providers in their respective fields.

The institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Mohammed Santuraki, commended President Tinubu’s reforms in advancing national education and growth. He also acknowledged Niger State Governor Umar Bago’s N100 million donation for a female hostel for medical students and praised the Vice-Chancellor’s prudent resource management.

The overall best graduating student from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Koter Oluwadamilola, described the convocation as a testament to perseverance, faith, and unity. FUT Minna graduated 5,297 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
